In a spectacular display of batting brilliance, South African batter Dewald Brevis rewrote the record books by smashing the highest individual score in T20 Internationals against Australia, breaking the previous record held by India’s Ruturaj Gaikwad. Brevis achieved this feat in the 2nd T20I against Australia at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin on Tuesday, August 12.
Dewald Brevis hits the fastest century against Australia in T20Is
Brevis scored a scintillating unbeaten 125 runs off just 56 balls, with a stunning 41-ball century that turned heads worldwide. This century is the fastest ever recorded against Australia in T20Is, surpassing New Zealand’s Martin Guptill, who had the previous fastest century against Australia off 49 balls. At just 22 years old, Brevis also became the youngest South African to score a T20I century. His innings included 8 sixes and 12 fours, marked by a strike rate consistently above 200.
Coming in to bat when South Africa was struggling early, Brevis steadied the innings and then launched into a relentless assault on the Australian bowlers. Along with Tristan Stubbs, he stitched a crucial 126-run partnership, reviving South Africa’s hopes in the match. Brevis’ blazing century helped South Africa post a formidable total of 218 for 7.
