The 13th edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is all set to deliver another month of high-intensity T20 cricket for fans across the globe. The action gets underway on August 14 (August 15 IST) at Warner Park, where hosts St Kitts & Nevis Patriots will lock horns with the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons in the opening encounter.
The month-long tournament will feature 34 matches played across six picturesque venues in the Caribbean. The final showdown is slated for September 21, promising a fitting climax to one of the most vibrant leagues in world cricket.
Playoff race and tournament format
The competition structure remains familiar for CPL fans. After the league stage, the top four teams will progress to the playoffs. The format mirrors the Indian Premier League (IPL) system, meaning the top two teams on the points table will enjoy the advantage of two opportunities to secure a spot in the final.
The third and fourth-placed teams will battle it out in an eliminator, with the winner facing the loser of Qualifier 1 for a place in the grand finale. This format ensures added drama, keeping fans on the edge of their seats till the very end of the league stage.
Saint Lucia Kings eye title defence
All eyes will be on defending champions Saint Lucia Kings, who scripted history in 2024 by clinching their first-ever CPL title. They defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors in a thrilling final last season and will enter the 2025 edition with the confidence and momentum of champions.
Led by David Wiese, the Kings will aim to replicate their success and join the elite list of teams to win back-to-back CPL titles. However, with every franchise bolstering its squad during the off-season, the road to glory is expected to be fiercely competitive.
