India pacers fights back in the second session

The first session of Day 2 turned disastrous for India as their batting lineup collapsed dramatically after a gritty rescue act by Karun Nair and Washington Sundar on the previous day. None of the last three batters managed to open their account, leaving Nair stranded as wickets tumbled rapidly to close the Indian innings at 224.

England’s openers then took immediate advantage, blunting the Indian pace attack with aggressive batting. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett put together a rapid 92-run partnership, racing to 109 for 1 before lunch as the Indian bowlers struggled for breakthroughs. However, after this early English assault, Indian seamers mounted a spirited comeback. Mohammed Siraj found his rhythm to remove Ollie Pope and Joe Root in quick succession. Siraj and Prasidh Krishna united to bowl out England for 247 in their first innings.
