The Mumbai batter, who has recently been in and out of the national side, has showcased his immense talent and determination with back-to-back centuries. His performances have not only put his team in a commanding position but have also sent a clear message to the national selectors ahead of a packed home Test season. Sarfaraz’s red-hot form puts him in an undeniable position to be considered for a Test recall.

Sarfaraz Khan’s second consecutive century in the Buchi Babu tournament

Following a blistering hundred in the opening match of the Buchi Babu tournament, Sarfaraz continued his dominant run with a second consecutive century. On Tuesday, the 27-year-old scored yet another century for Mumbai, this time against Haryana. Sarfaraz brought up his century in the final session of Day 1 of the contest, taking just 99 balls to reach the feat. He reached the landmark in style by smashing a massive six off Haryana’s Ishant Bharadwaj.

Upon reaching the milestone, Sarfaraz removed his helmet, soaking in the applause from his non-striker and the rest of the Mumbai camp. He was eventually dismissed for 111 by Parth Vats. This performance is a testament to Sarfaraz’s mental and physical fortitude. He once again rescued his team from a precarious position, showcasing his ability to handle pressure and build an innings. This consistent run-scoring in a prestigious tournament like the Buchi Babu, which features many of the country’s top domestic players, reinforces his reputation as a run-machine and makes it increasingly difficult for the selectors to ignore his claims for a spot in the national side.

Sarfaraz’s first hundred and the quest for a team India recall

Sarfaraz’s first century in the tournament was a masterclass in aggressive yet controlled batting. Against a strong Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI, he reached his hundred off just 92 balls, eventually retiring hurt on 138 from 114 deliveries. His knock was laced with 10 fours and 6 sixes, showcasing his ability to dominate the opposition. This performance comes after he was left out of India’s recent Test tour of England.

Having made his Test debut in 2024, where he scored twin fifties against England and a hundred against New Zealand, Sarfaraz’s recent form has been inconsistent, leading to his exclusion. However, he has worked tirelessly on his game, reportedly shedding 17 kilograms in a rigorous off-season fitness regime. With India’s home season set to feature series against the West Indies and South Africa, his two consecutive hundreds have put him in an excellent position for a recall.
