Following a highly successful series against England, Mohammed Siraj and other top performers have seen significant changes in their ICC Test rankings, reflecting their contributions to the thrilling 2-2 series draw.
Mohammed Siraj’s meteoric rise in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers
Siraj has been the biggest mover in the latest ICC Men’s Test Rankings for Bowlers, jumping an impressive 12 spots to a career-best 15th position. This leap is a direct reward for his phenomenal performance in the series, where he emerged as the leading wicket-taker with 23 scalps from all five matches.
Siraj’s relentless work ethic, bowling over 1,000 deliveries and consistently delivering for his team, was a defining feature of the series. His heroics included two five-wicket hauls, one in the Birmingham Test and a crucial one at The Oval, both of which were instrumental in securing India’s victories. His outstanding effort was also recognized with a career-best rating of 674 points, solidifying his status as a top-tier fast bowler in the world.
While Siraj climbed the ladder, his teammate and captain, Jasprit Bumrah, maintained his grip on the number one spot with 889 rating points, the only Indian in the top 10. Spinners saw a different fate, with Ravindra Jadeja dropping three spots to 17th. The series also provided a platform for new talents to shine. Prasidh Krishna, who partnered brilliantly with Siraj, reached a career-best 59th position. For England, fast bowlers Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue also achieved career-best rankings, with Atkinson breaking into the top 10 for the first time.

Shubman Gill’s slip and other notable batting changes
Despite a sensational series where he scored a series-high 754 runs, Indian captain Shubman Gill has slipped in the latest ICC Test Rankings for Batters. Gill, who was the joint Player of the Series, dropped four places to 13th with 725 rating points. His fall from grace was largely a result of his performance in the final Test at The Oval, where his rating points dropped significantly from a high of 807 achieved earlier in the series.
In contrast, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was the only Indian batter to gain ground, climbing three spots to fifth place. Jaiswal’s belligerent century in the second innings of the Oval Test, where he scored 118 runs, was instrumental in his climb. He now sits with 792 rating points, just 24 points behind Australia’s Steve Smith.
The rankings also saw other key movements:
- Joe Root solidified his position as the number one Test batter in the world with 908 rating points after a stellar series where he scored 537 runs, including three back-to-back centuries.
- Harry Brook, the joint Player of the Series, regained the second position in the rankings with 868 rating points, surpassing Kane Williamson.
- Rishabh Pant, who missed the final Test due to injury, managed to stay in the top 10 but slipped one place to eighth.
In the all-rounders’ list, Jadeja remained at the top spot, while Washington Sundar dropped three places to 16th.
