Pakistan’s crushing loss to West Indies in the decisive ODI has sparked criticism after they faltered against a struggling opposition. Former Pakistan batter and chief selector, Basit Ali strongly questioned the team’s approach and warned that such performances raise serious concerns with the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 clash against India coming up in September.
Basit Ali lambasts Pakistan ahead of Asia Cup 2025 clash against India
Following Pakistan’s humbling defeat to the West Indies, Basit, speaking on his YouTube channel, expressed a strong fear for the team’s upcoming Asia Cup clash against India. He passionately stated that he hoped India would refuse to play them, fearing a humiliating loss that would be far more damaging to the public than a defeat to any other nation. Ali highlighted the immense pressure associated with the rivalry, suggesting the consequences of losing to India would be severe.
“I pray India refuse to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, just like how they did at the World Championships of Legends. Itni buri tarah maarenge na vo, ki aapki soch hai (They will beat us so badly you can’t even imagine). If we lose to Afghanistan, no one would care much in this country. But everyone goes mad the moment you lose to India,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.
Poor white-ball form haunts Pakistan
Pakistan had a horrible last white-ball outing, being bundled out for just 93 runs against West Indies in the three-match series decider. The Pakistan batting completely collapsed, with five of their batters scoring ducks. Since then, the side has faced heavy backlash from fans and experts. Their star batter Babar Azam has continued to struggle, finding little form with the bat, while skipper Mohammad Rizwan has also come under intense scrutiny for his leadership and tactical decisions. Pakistan has struggled massively against India in recent times. Whether in the Champions Trophy 2025 or the T20 World Cup 2024, the side has been unable to counter the strong Indian team in any meaningful way. With the Asia Cup just a month away, Pakistan must look for answers to overcome the world number one T20I side.
