Pakistan cricket has always been known for unearthing exciting young talents who go on to capture the world’s attention. From Wasim Akram to Babar Azam, every generation has produced players who left a mark on the game. Now, another name is beginning to echo within cricketing circles, who has been making steady progress, and his performances have caught the eye of a very respected voice in the sport.
Jason Gillespie reveals his pick for the next star of Pakistan
Former Australia fast bowler and ex-Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie has once again put the spotlight on young batting sensation Muhammad Irfan Khan. Known for his eye for raw talent, Gillespie described the 22-year-old as a “quality player and an outstanding person,” adding that he has all the ingredients to become a long-term asset for Pakistan cricket.
Gillespie didn’t stop there. He openly encouraged T20 franchises around the world to take notice of Irfan, insisting that teams who sign him would be making a smart investment.
“He will be a long-term player for Pakistan. The T20 leagues will come calling. I would recommend him to any franchise or team,” Gillespie wrote.

The impressive numbers of the youngster
Notably, Irfan was recently spotted in Top End T20 Series 2025. While Pakistan Shaheens couldn’t make it past the semifinals of —losing to the eventual champions Perth Scorchers Academy—Irfan’s individual displays left a strong impression. Across six innings, he compiled 127 runs at an average of 24, often absorbing pressure in tricky situations. More importantly, his strike rate of 130.90 showed that he was not just about survival but also about impact, providing much-needed acceleration in the middle order.
This consistency has only strengthened Gillespie’s argument that Irfan is ready for bigger stages. His ability to clear boundaries with ease, combined with his electric fielding, makes him the complete package in the shortest format.
