A stunning all-around performance from Jason Holder propelled the West Indies to a thrilling two-wicket victory over Pakistan in the 2nd T20I of the three-match series. The win, secured on the final ball of the match, levels the series at 1-1 and sets up a mouth-watering decider.

Pakistan’s Innings

After winning the toss and electing to bat first at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Pakistan got off to a shaky start. The West Indies bowlers, led by the brilliant Jason Holder, were relentless in their attack. Holder was exceptional, finishing with figures of 4 for 19 from his four overs, including the crucial wickets of openers Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan.

Pakistan found themselves in a precarious position at 53 for 4, but a resilient partnership between skipper Agha Salman (38) and Hasan Nawaz (40) brought them back into the game. Nawaz was particularly aggressive, smashing 4 sixes in his quickfire 23-ball innings. However, once Holder returned to break the partnership by dismissing Nawaz, the West Indies regained control. Pakistan’s lower order couldn’t capitalize on the recovery, and they were ultimately restricted to 133 for 9 in their 20 overs. Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie and Roston Chase also chipped in with key wickets.

West Indies’ Innings

Chasing a modest target of 134, the West Indies’ batting lineup struggled to find momentum against a disciplined Pakistan bowling attack. The Pakistan spinners were particularly effective, with Mohammad Nawaz taking 3 wickets for just 14 runs. The West Indies lost wickets at regular intervals, and the match seemed to be slipping away from them when they were reduced to 98 for 7.

However, a spirited partnership between Gudakesh Motie (28) and a late cameo from Romario Shepherd (15) kept the home team in the hunt. With 7 runs needed off the final over bowled by Shaheen Afridi, the pressure was immense. But fittingly, it was Jason Holder who held his nerve. After Shepherd’s dismissal, Holder found the boundary on the very last ball, sealing a sensational two-wicket victory for his team.

Jason Holder was deservedly named the Player of the Match for his outstanding all-around contribution. His match-winning performance with both ball and bat proved to be the difference-maker in a tense and thrilling encounter.

With the series now tied at one win apiece, both teams will head into the final T20I with everything to play for. The decider will be held at the same venue on Sunday, August 3.
