A sensational century by veteran batter Colin Munro powered the Trinbago Knight Riders to a thrilling 12-run victory over the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the fourth match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025. Batting first after losing the toss, the Knight Riders posted a mammoth total of 231/5, thanks to Munro’s breathtaking knock of 120 from just 57 balls. In reply, the Patriots fought valiantly with a quick start and a fighting innings from their captain Jason Holder, but ultimately fell short, finishing at 219/7.

Colin Munro’s masterclass sets up mammoth total for Trinbago Knight Riders

The Knight Riders’ innings was a masterclass in aggressive T20 batting, orchestrated by the explosive Munro. Coming in for his CPL return, the 38-year-old left-hander wasted no time, taking the Patriots’ bowlers to task from the outset. He formed a destructive 114-run opening partnership with Alex Hales, who played a brisk supporting role with a 27-ball 47.

Munro reached his fifty in just 21 balls and his century in a blistering 50 balls, showcasing his immense power and timing. His magnificent knock was not just about quick runs, but also about setting a formidable platform that allowed subsequent batter like Kieron Pollard and Keacy Carty to push the score beyond the 230-mark. The Patriots bowlers, including the highly-rated Naseem Shah, struggled to contain the flow of runs, with only Holder and Waqar Salamkheil managing to claim two wickets each, though at a high economy.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ valiant chase falls short in CPL 2025

In pursuit of a daunting 232-run target, the Patriots began their chase with great intent. Openers Kyle Mayers and Andre Fletcher provided a flying start, putting on an 80-run partnership in less than eight overs. However, the introduction of spin turned the tide in Trinbago’s favor. Usman Tariq, the standout bowler for the Knight Riders, proved to be the game-changer, breaking the crucial opening stand and then a few overs later, taking two quick wickets to halt the Patriots’ momentum. Tariq’s spell of 4 for 33 was pivotal in stifling the chase.

Despite a valiant effort from captain Holder, who smashed a belligerent 44 from just 22 balls, and some late heroics from Dominic Drakes and Naseem Shah, the required run rate proved to be too steep. The Patriots fell just 12 runs short, as the Trinbago bowlers, led by Tariq’s crucial scalps, managed to hold their nerve and secure a hard-fought victory.

The high-scoring encounter at Warner Park in Basseterre showcased a run-fest from both teams, but it was the firepower of the Knight Riders and a disciplined bowling effort that sealed their first win of the season. Munro’s innings, which included 14 fours and 6 sixes, was the centerpiece of the match, while spinner Tariq was crucial for TKR with his four-wicket haul.
