India’s rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal has withdrawn his decision to move from Mumbai to Goa for the upcoming domestic season. Just days after obtaining the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Jaiswal has now decided to continue playing for his home team, Mumbai, in the 2025-26 domestic circuit.
His earlier move to shift to Goa had stirred criticism from fans and Mumbai cricket followers alike. Many pointed out that the left-handed batter had received all his cricketing opportunities and exposure through Mumbai’s robust cricketing system, and switching teams after gaining national recognition seemed ungrateful to some.
However, in a sudden but welcome reversal, Jaiswal reached out to MCA and formally requested the withdrawal of his NOC. His decision to stay has been approved by the association, putting an end to the speculation about his future in domestic cricket.
Why Yashasvi Jaiswal decided to stay with Mumbai
The reason behind Jaiswal’s change of heart has now been revealed, and it involves a crucial conversation with India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma. According to MCA president Ajinkya Naik, it was Rohit who played a pivotal role in convincing the young batter to stay committed to Mumbai cricket. Rohit reminded Jaiswal of his journey, starting from the maidans of Mumbai to the Indian Test team, all of which was made possible due to the platform provided by Mumbai cricket.
“Rohit asked Yashasvi to stay on in Mumbai at this stage of his career. He explained to Yashasvi that there was a lot of pride and prestige in playing for a team like Mumbai, which has won the Ranji Trophy a record 42 times. Rohit also told Yashasvi that he must not forget that it was because of Mumbai cricket he got a platform and went on to play for India, and he must be grateful to the city for that. It was here in Mumbai that he started playing cricket on the maidans, and then was picked for all the age group teams of Mumbai,” said Naik as quoted by Times of India.
Naik further revealed that Jaiswal consulted with other senior players as well before taking the final call and sent a mail regarding the withdrawal of his NOC application.
“After discussing this with Rohit and a few other stalwarts who represented India and Mumbai, Jaiswal sent an email to us requesting us to withdraw his No-Objection Certificate application to shift to Goa. We approved his request,” Naik added.

A memorable Test series in England for Jaiswal
Jaiswal’s stock has risen rapidly in international cricket, particularly after his exceptional showing in the recent Test series against England. The left-handed opener amassed 411 runs in five matches at an average of 41.10. His campaign included two centuries and two half-centuries, showcasing his adaptability and temperament in English conditions.
The 22-year-old started and ended the series on a high note, with his tons coming in the first (101 at Headingley) and last Tests (118 at The Oval). His ability to dominate quality bowling attacks in challenging conditions has made him a mainstay in India’s Test lineup.
