Craig Overton’s late blitz stuns Manchester Originals in a thrilling chase
The drama unfolded with Southern Brave’s chase in tatters, requiring 26 runs from the final 11 deliveries. It was a late-order surge sparked by a crucial six from Tymal Mills that revived their hopes. The momentum shifted decisively when Craig Overton followed up with a spectacular display of power-hitting, smashing a six and two fours off consecutive balls to bring the equation down to a run-a-ball. The excitement reached a fever pitch as the drama continued.
Just when victory seemed within reach, Mills holed out in the deep, leaving the team needing three runs from the last two balls with their final wicket in hand. The number 11 batter, Reece Topley, coolly stepped up to the crease and hit a boundary to seal an improbable victory for the Southern Brave, a truly memorable win that kickstarts their campaign in sensational fashion.

A late fightback powers Southern Bravo to a win
After winning the toss, Southern Brave opted to field first in Manchester. The home side, Manchester Originals, got off to a flying start as their skipper, Phil Salt, scored a brilliant half-century, hitting 60 from 41 balls to lay the foundation for a big total. Jos Buttler and Mark Chapman played useful cameos, but regular wickets kept the run rate in check. The Originals finished with 131 runs.
In response, Southern Brave’s chase was a rollercoaster. Despite Jason Roy’s aggressive knock of 30, wickets fell consistently, with Scott Currie taking four key wickets. With the Brave collapsing to 104 for 8, the Originals seemed set to win. However, a stunning late-order partnership led by Overton and Topley’s boundary off the final delivery secured a sensational one-wicket victory.
