The opening day of Duleep Trophy 2025, the second quarter-final witnessed a batting masterclass, with twin centuries from Danish Malewar and skipper Rajat Patidar for Central Zone in their clash against North East Zone. The two batsmen put on a massive partnership, completely dominating the opposition and setting a strong foundation for their team. Their sublime display ensured Central Zone ended the day in a commanding position.

The 21-year-old Malewar was the star of the show, remaining unbeaten at 198 runs until stumps on the day. He impressed with his sheer grit and an elegant array of shots throughout his innings. Malewar faced 219 deliveries, and his masterful knock included 35 boundaries and one wonderful six, showcasing his powerful hitting and control. He completely dismantled the opposition’s bowling attack leaving them with no answers.

Skipper Patidar showed why he is considered one of the most explosive talents in domestic cricket. Coming out to bat at number four, he went on to score a brilliant 125 runs from just 96 balls, an innings that included a blistering 21 fours and 3 sixes. His bludgeoning innings was a treat to watch, as he took the bowlers for cleaners with his aggressive stroke play. Patidar’s blistering pace ensured the Central Zone’s run rate remained consistently high, a testament to his ability to shift gears effortlessly.

A tiring day for the North Eastern bowlers

It was a long and tiring day for the bowlers of the North East Zone. With the Central Zone batsmen in a punishing mood, the bowling attack struggled to find any rhythm or control. Akash Choudhary, despite a decent economy, could only manage one wicket from his 17 overs. Pheiroijam Jotin also picked up a single scalp but conceded runs at a high economy. The other bowlers were hit all over the park and failed to pick up any wickets, highlighting the struggle against the relentless Central Zone batting lineup.
