At the Buchi Babu tournament 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was caught on camera having a hilarious and light-hearted conversation with a group of young cricketers. The video, which has since gone viral, shows a side of Gaikwad that is rarely seen on the field. The fun banter centered on the kids’ favorite IPL teams, creating a memorable moment that highlighted the playful rivalry between CSK and RCB.

The hilarious RCB banter from CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad

The heart of the viral video is a simple question from Gaikwad to the kids: “Which is your favourite IPL team?” When several of them enthusiastically responded with RCB (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and MI (Mumbai Indians), Gaikwad’s reaction was priceless. He pointed at them in a mock serious manner and said, “Everyone will remember your name, and no one will pick you for CSK,”

His comment, delivered with a grin, left the kids and onlookers in splits. One child, perhaps realizing the consequence of his choice, quickly added, “I like CSK too!” Gaikwad’s playful nature didn’t stop there. When asked about who the best Indian wicketkeeper is, he jokingly ignored MS Dhoni and pointed to himself, saying, “You didn’t see my keeping? You watch YouTube. Instead of watching Shoaib Akhtar, watch me keeping,”

While the video was all fun and games, it also provided a glimpse into the camaraderie and relationship between Gaikwad and the future of Indian cricket. The interaction took place at the Super Kings Academy, highlighting the franchise’s commitment to nurturing young talent. Gaikwad, who replaced MS Dhoni as CSK’s captain, has been seen as a calm and composed leader on the field. This video, however, showed his lighter side and his ability to connect with fans on a personal level. The clip has resonated with many because it goes beyond the on-field rivalry, showing that at the end of the day, cricket is a game that brings joy and laughter to everyone involved, from a professional cricketer to the aspiring young kids he mentors.

Gaikwad’s performance in the Buchi Babu Tournament 2025 and IPL 2025 campaign and injury

Gaikwad’s recent form has been a cause for concern following his return from an elbow injury. Playing for Maharashtra in the 2025 Buchi Babu tournament, a red-ball clash against Chhattisgarh, he had a “poor” outing with scores of just 1 and 11 in two innings, contributing to Maharashtra’s 35-run defeat Despite his low scores with the bat, Gaikwad surprised many by bowling the final over of the first day and even managed to get a wicket. His participation in the tournament was short-lived, as he was only slated to play in the opening match before joining the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy.

Gaikwad’s 2025 IPL season with the CSK was cut short due to an unfortunate elbow injury that resulted in a hairline fracture. This happened during a match against the Rajasthan Royals. Although he played two more games with the injury, he was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. At the time of his injury, he had scored 122 runs in five matches, including a high score of 63, with a strike rate of 150.61. His injury prompted MS Dhoni to take over the captaincy once again. CSK’s season ended in disappointment as they finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in their history.
