In Match 26 of The Hundred 2025 at the iconic Lord’s Stadium, the clash between London Spirit and Southern Brave delivered another eye-catching moment. Kane Williamson, known for his elegance and calm demeanor, surprised the crowd with sheer aggression. Facing Jofra Archer, one of the fastest bowlers in the competition, Williamson unleashed a remarkable stroke. The moment stood out because it was not a typical Williamson-style drive but a powerful swivel-pull into the stands. It demonstrated not just timing but also his adaptability to the short-pitched challenge. Lord’s erupted as the ball sailed into the top tier of the Grandstand, creating a memory to be replayed long after the match.

Kane Williamson strikes big at Lord’s against Jofra Archer

Archer steamed in and delivered a short-pitched ball at 87 mph, digging it in halfway down the pitch with steep bounce. Williamson, reading the length early, quickly shifted his weight onto the back foot and opened up his body to prepare for the pull shot. With his trademark calmness, he swivelled on the back leg, rolled his wrists perfectly, and connected sweetly through the middle of the bat. The timing and control were precise, he neither overhit nor forced the stroke, relying instead on balance and bat speed. The ball flew flat and powerful, soaring into the grandstand and landing in the top tier, a rare sight at Lord’s given the steep angles of the stands. For Williamson, known more for placement and finesse than brute power, this six stood out as a statement of technical mastery: it showed how even a bowler of Archer’s pace can be countered with quick reflexes, controlled execution, and clean timing.

Jamie Smith and Williamson power London Spirit to commanding win over Southern Brave

The Spirit produced a dominant performance at Lord’s to defeat Brave by 47 runs in the 26th match of The Hundred 2025. Opting to bat first, Spirit were given a brisk start by David Warner (25 off 20) and Jamie Smith, who turned the momentum with a dazzling 44 off just 18 balls, striking 4 fours and 3 sixes at an exceptional strike rate of 244. Williamson, calm yet ruthless, anchored the innings with a captain’s knock of 53 off 28 deliveries, mixing classical strokes with clean power hitting, including three sixes, as Spirit surged past 180. Cameos from Ashton Turner (22 off 15), Sean Dickson (18 not out off 13) and Jamie Overton (16 not out off 7) ensured they closed at 186/4 in their 100 balls, a formidable total at Lord’s. The Brave bowlers struggled for control, with only Michael Bracewell (2/26) and James Coles (1/22) keeping things relatively tight, while Archer’s 1/42 included the key wicket of Williamson but came at a heavy cost.

In reply, the Brave faltered early as captain James Vince fell cheaply for 4 and Leus du Plooy followed soon after to leave them reeling at 16/2. Jason Roy counterattacked with 37 off 23 balls, striking two sixes, while youngster Coles added a lively 18 off 10. However, the Spirit spinners, led by Liam Dawson (3/23), pegged Brave back with timely strikes in the middle overs. Laurie Evans threatened with 37 off 21, blasting four sixes, but his dismissal triggered a collapse as Gleeson (3/30) and Jamie Overton (2/35) ran through the lower order. Brave could only manage 139 in 92 balls, falling well short of the target. With this win, Spirit moved into the top half of the table, their batting depth and all-round bowling balance proving decisive. Smith, for his explosive cameo that set the tone, was rightfully named Player of the Match.
