The Hundred 2025 has already produced plenty of thrilling cricket, but Trent Bridge was treated to a moment of pure magic in the clash between Trent Rockets and Birmingham Phoenix. A low-scoring contest had its share of twists, but it was Liam Patterson-White’s jaw-dropping delivery to dismiss David Willey that stole the show, instantly being hailed as the “ball of the tournament.”

Liam Patterson-White bowls a dream delivery to dismiss David Willey

Patterson-White produced a delivery that will be remembered for years. Facing the experienced Willey, Patterson-White tossed one up outside off, inviting the left-hander forward. What followed was pure magic – the ball drifted, gripped the rough patches, and spun sharply back in to rattle Willey’s stumps.

Even the bowler himself appeared astonished at the extravagant turn, raising his hands in disbelief before being mobbed by teammates. Commentators instantly hailed it as the “ball of the tournament,” with fans on social media drawing parallels to some of the greatest spinning deliveries in cricket history. For Willey, there was little he could do as the delivery beat his bat and crashed into the stumps, leaving Phoenix stunned.

Rehan Ahmed’s all-round show propels Trent Rockets to win

Earlier in the contest, Trent Rockets skipper opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Birmingham Phoenix struggled to build momentum against disciplined bowling. Dan Mousley’s fighting 26 was the lone bright spot as wickets fell regularly. Rehan Ahmed continued his fine form, returning excellent figures of 3 for 15, while George Linde supported with 2 for 12. Patterson-White’s magical delivery to Willey capped off a strong bowling effort as Phoenix were restricted to just 111 for 9 in their 100 balls.

In reply, Rockets faced some nervy moments in their chase. Jacob Bethell picked up 2 for 22 and applied pressure in the middle overs, while Phoenix’s bowlers kept the game alive. However, Rehan showcased his all-round abilities with a crucial 37, guiding the chase despite wickets tumbling around him. Rockets eventually crossed the line in the penultimate delivery, finishing at 113 for 7 in 99 balls to secure a hard-fought three-wicket win.
