The Kerala Cricket League (KCL) 2025 kicked off in grand style on August 21, delivering two thrilling encounters on its opening day. Fans were treated to Calicut Globstars vs Aries Kollam Sailors in the first match, but the spotlight firmly shifted to the evening clash between Adani Trivandrum Royals and Kochi Blue Tigers. The reason? The presence of Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, who turned up for the Tigers. While the match had its share of drama, it was the Samson brothers’ brilliance in the field that stole the show.

The highlight arrived on the very first ball of the Royals’ innings. Opener Subin S nudged the ball towards mid-off, where Sanju was quick to pounce. Showing razor-sharp reflexes, he picked up cleanly and fired a direct throw at the bowler’s end. Waiting there was his elder brother and Kochi Blue Tigers’ skipper, Saly Samson. With complete composure, Saly dislodged the bails to complete a stunning run-out.

Kochi Blue Tigers dominate the Royals

After the electrifying start, Kochi’s bowlers tightened the screws. Muhammad Ashik and Akhin Sathar were relentless, scalping three wickets apiece to bowl out the Royals for just 97 runs in 20 overs. The Royals never recovered from the early setback, struggling to build partnerships against disciplined bowling.

Chasing 98, the Blue Tigers made short work of the target, reaching it in just 11.5 overs. Captain Saly starred with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 50 off 30 balls, ensuring his side cruised to an 8-wicket victory. The Samson brothers’ heroics made the win even more memorable, marking a perfect start to Kochi’s KCL 2025 campaign.
