In the fifth match of Group B at the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 in Abu Dhabi on September 13 Sri Lanka delivered a commanding performance to restrict Bangladesh to a below-par total before chasing it down with ease. Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat but struggled against high quality pace and spin as Sri Lanka applied relentless pressure through disciplined bowling and smart field placements. Sri Lanka’s balanced attack kept the scoreboard in check throughout the innings while the visitors failed to build meaningful partnerships.

Sri Lanka’s disciplined bowling chokes Bangladesh to a below par score

Sri Lanka’s bowling unit combined pace and spin with precision to dismantle the Bangladesh top order inside nine overs. Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera set the tone early by maintaining tight lines and lengths at the start of the innings. Their combined first-change strikes triggered a collapse that saw Bangladesh slip to 53 for 5 at the halfway stage. Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana then exploited any loose strokes to pick up two wickets each and halt any momentum shift.

Litton Das stood out with a gritty 28 off 26 deliveries but lacked support as the middle order fell in quick succession. Extras added 11 runs to Bangladesh’s total as Sri Lanka consistently executed their plans and kept the required run rate under control. The visitors managed just 139 for 5 at the end of their 20 overs a total that proved below par for a flat Abu Dhabi wicket.

Nissanka looked in sublime touch racing to a 50 off 34 balls with six boundaries and a six before falling to Mahedi Hasan.

Mishara continued the onslaught with a composed unbeaten 46 off 32 deliveries linking powerful drives with smart placement to keep the required run rate under control. Kusal Mendis got a brief start and Dasun Shanaka added a quick cameo but it was the duo’s stand that sealed the fate of the contest. Sri Lanka reached the target in 14.4 overs with 32 balls to spare and six wickets in hand to claim a dominant win and send a statement of intent in Asia Cup 2025.
