Pakistan batter Sidra Amin’s century sets a formidable target

Pakistan, having won the toss and electing to bat first, was led by the magnificent innings of opener Sidra. She anchored the innings with a superb, unbeaten 121 from 150 balls, showcasing her class and determination. After losing opener Shawaal Zulfiqar early for a duck, Amin built a game-changing 147-run partnership with Muneeba Ali, who contributed a solid 76.

The partnership laid a strong foundation, and despite a few quick wickets in the middle overs, Pakistan’s lower order, including a quick cameo from Aliya Riaz (33), pushed the total to a competitive 255/4. South Africa’s bowlers were disciplined for the most part, with Ayabonga Khaka being the most effective with 2 wickets for 36 runs. Amin’s century was a personal milestone and a record-breaking performance, as it was her fifth ODI hundred, making her the leading centurion for Pakistan in the format. Her efforts seemed to have given Pakistan the upper hand going into the second innings, but the match was about to see a dramatic shift.

Marizanne Kapp and Tazmin Brits’ record-breaking partnership seals the win for South Africa

South Africa’s run-chase started on a shaky note, losing captain Laura Wolvaardt for just 4 runs and Sune Luus for 30, which left them at 43/2 in the 10th over. It was at this crucial juncture that Brits and Kapp came together, and what followed was a masterclass in ODI batting. The pair formed a formidable, unbroken 216-run partnership for the third wicket, systematically dismantling the Pakistan bowling attack. Both batters played with a mix of caution and aggression, reaching their centuries with impressive composure.

Brits scored an unbeaten 101 off 121 balls, while Kapp, who was named Player of the Match, was the more dominant partner, smashing a majestic 121 not out from just 128 deliveries. Their partnership not only broke the back of the chase but also set a new record for the highest third-wicket stand for South Africa in Women’s ODIs. Kapp and Brits’ 216-run partnership is South Africa’s highest for the 3rd wicket in Women’s ODIs, breaking the record of 177 between Luus and Wolvaardt. With their relentless scoring and impeccable shot selection, they guided South Africa to the target in just 48.2 overs, securing a dominant 8-wicket victory with 10 balls to spare.
