With the Asia Cup 2025 now just around the corner, discussions around team combinations and selections have reached a fever pitch. Amidst this intense debate, former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has reportedly made a very stark remark about one of the most surprising  snubs from the Indian squad.

Parthiv Patel reacts strongly to Shreyas Iyer’s exclusion from Asia Cup 2025

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Parthiv expressed that in cricket, luck often plays a big role, and sometimes players are simply unlucky. In his view, Shreyas Iyer needs to focus on being patient and wait for the right opportunities, as a bit of fortune can make a significant difference in the game.

“But in my opinion, I feel that someone had to be unlucky. When you are playing cricket, you want the luck to favor you at times, as it makes a big difference. I feel Shreyas Iyer needs to do just one thing: he just has to wait and have some patience,” Parthiv said.

Iyer has been an integral part of India’s ODI setup, consistently delivering with the bat. Over the past year, he has also excelled in T20 cricket, with IPL 2025 serving as a prime example of his abilities in shortest format, accelerate when needed and influence matches decisively.

Parthiv also touched upon the selectors’ dilemma in finalizing the squad

Parthiv also shown sympathy for the Indian selectors, acknowledging that choosing a team is extremely challenging given the wealth of talent available. Even after selecting 15 players, many capable performers like Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Orange Cap winner Sai Sudharsan and Purple Cap winner Prasidh Krishna were left out.

“My sympathy is with the Indian selectors because being an Indian selector is the most difficult thing right now. India has so many talented players that whenever you sit down to select a team, you will definitely feel why a player missed out or why a player was picked. 15 players were selected, but there are equally capable players like Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Orange Cap winner Sai Sudharsan, and the Purple Cap winner Prasidh Krishna,” Parthiv concluded.
