Yashasvi Jaiswal has quickly become one of India’s brightest young talents since his Test debut in 2023. Opening with Rohit Sharma and sharing key stands with Virat Kohli, the 22-year-old left-hander has absorbed lessons both on and off the field. In a recent chat with Mashable India, Jaiswal highlighted how Rohit’s mentorship and Kohli’s camaraderie have shaped his growth as an international cricketer.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s learning under Rohit Sharma

From his very first Test, Jaiswal found in Rohit more than just a batting partner. In 28 innings together they piled up 1,269 runs, blending flair with composure. Beyond those numbers, Jaiswal credits Rohit for instilling mental toughness and technical refinement.

According to Jaiswal, Rohit’s support off the field has mattered just as much. Pep talks during net sessions and honest feedback on tour helped him overcome doubts and handle pressure on debut trips. Rohit’s dedication to routines also left a deep impression. This mix of technical insights and personal guidance, he believes, fast-tracked his readiness for Test cricket.

“I really enjoy being with Rohit bhai. He has taught me so much and helped me a lot in developing myself, both mentally and overall. He is truly an amazing human being. When you are around him or talk to him, you learn a lot, in fact, just by watching him, you can learn so much,” Jaiswal said.

Laughter and lessons with Virat Kohli

While Rohit played the guiding elder brother, Kohli brought energy and humor to every dressing room. In ten innings together they scored 361 runs, showcasing aggression with strategy. Jaiswal described Kohli as the team’s morale booster, always ready with a witty remark even in tense moments. Though Jaiswal tries to find humor himself, he admits Kohli’s razor-sharp wit takes it to another level.

Beyond laughter, Kohli’s work ethic and fitness standards have influenced Jaiswal’s own approach. The youngster observed how Kohli balances intensity with warmth, creating an environment where serious drills and light moments coexist. This balance, Jaiswal says, has taught him about leadership and teamwork.

“Paaji is amazing, really strong. I’ve batted with him many times. He’s so much fun, and he’s really funny too. If you spend time with him, you’ll just keep laughing, it’s a different level altogether. If he tells you something about someone, he’ll explain it in full detail — it’s incredible. He’s so sharp. Like, if you ask me to explain something in a funny way, I might try but it won’t come out funny. But if he says it, then 100 percent you’ll end up laughing for sure,” Jaiswal said.

As Rohit and Kohli retire from Tests in May 2025, Jaiswal’s reflections underline the legacy these legends leave behind. Through mentorship, skill development, and a spirited dressing room culture, they have prepared the next generation. With talents like Jaiswal ready to carry the mantle, Team India’s tradition of excellence appears well secured.
