The Hundred Men’s 2025 competition reached its grand finale on Sunday (August 31) at Lord’s Cricket Ground, where Oval Invincibles emerged victorious against Trent Rockets. With this win, the Sam Billings-led Invincibles created history by joining elite teams like Victoria, Sialkot Stallions, Wayamba, Trinidad & Tobago, Titans and Jaffna Kings in achieving a rare hat-trick of T20 titles.

The triumph not only cemented their dominance in the tournament but also highlighted the depth and balance of their squad.

Strong start with the bat sets the tone for Oval Invincibles

Batting first, Oval Invincibles displayed their intent right from the outset. Will Jacks led the charge with a brilliant knock of 72 runs, while his opening partner Tawanda Muyeye chipped in with 15.

Jordan Cox played a steady hand in the middle order, adding 40 runs, while Sam Curran contributed 15. Despite a disciplined effort from Trent Rockets’ bowlers, the Invincibles managed to post a competitive total of 168 runs in their allotted 100 balls.

For the Rockets, Marcus Stoinis shone with the ball, picking up two crucial wickets. Dillon Pennington and Rehan Ahmed chipped in with a wicket apiece, ensuring the target was challenging but not insurmountable.

Trent Rockets falter in the chase

Chasing 169, the Trent Rockets had a rocky start. Openers Tom Banton (23) and Joe Root (10) failed to provide a solid platform, leaving their team under pressure early on.

The middle order collapsed further with David Willey (14) and Rehan Ahmed (0) failing to make an impact. However, Marcus Stoinis stepped up once again, this time with the bat, scoring a blistering 64 runs off 38 balls to keep his side’s hopes alive.

Despite his heroics, the Rockets never really recovered from the early setbacks. They eventually folded for 142 runs, falling 21 runs short of the target.

The Invincibles’ bowling attack executed their plans perfectly. Nathan Sowter was the standout performer, claiming three wickets to dismantle the Rockets’ middle order. He was ably supported by Saqib Mahmood, Tom Curran and Adam Zampa, who picked up one wicket each.

Their combined effort ensured that the Rockets could not gain momentum, despite Stoinis’ resistance, sealing a comfortable victory in the summit clash.
