Sri Lanka endured another forgettable batting display in the second T20I against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, September 6, 2025. The visitors were bundled out for just 80 runs in 17.4 overs, marking their second-lowest total in T20 internationals.

Only Kamil Mishara (20 off 20), skipper Charith Asalanka (18), and Dasun Shanaka (15) managed to reach double figures, while the rest of the batting order crumbled. Zimbabwe’s bowlers dominated throughout, with Sikandar Raza (3/11) and Brad Evans (3/15) leading the charge.

This collapse adds to a growing list of batting failures for Sri Lanka in T20Is. Let’s have a look back at some of the lowest team totals in their T20I history.

Top 5 lowest team totals for Sri Lanka in T20Is

1) 77 all out vs South Africa, New York – June 3, 2024

Sri Lanka’s lowest-ever T20I total came at the 2024 T20 World Cup against a dominant South African side. Batting first on a New York pitch offering unpredictable bounce and swing, they collapsed to 77 all out in 19.1 overs. Anrich Nortje produced a devastating spell of 4/7, while Ottneil Baartman and Keshav Maharaj chipped in with vital wickets. Kusal Mendis top-scored with a cautious 19 off 30 balls, but the lack of partnerships and inability to handle the conditions led to this historic low. It still stands as the fifth-lowest total by a full-member nation in T20 World Cup history.

2) 80 all out vs Zimbabwe, Harare – September 6, 2025

Sri Lanka’s batting frailties were exposed once again in Harare, where they were bowled out for 80 in 17.4 overs during the second T20I against Zimbabwe. Mishara’s 20 off 20 was the only notable contribution, with captain Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka being the only other players to reach double figures. Zimbabwe’s bowlers maintained relentless discipline, with Raza and Evans both taking three wickets each. The collapse not only handed Zimbabwe a 5-wicket win but also reignited questions about Sri Lanka’s consistency in the shortest format.

3) 82 all out vs India, Visakhapatnam – February 14, 2016

Sri Lanka’s third-lowest T20I total came in Visakhapatnam during a bilateral series against India. Opting to bat first on a turning track, they folded for 82 in 18 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin was the wrecker-in-chief, returning astonishing figures of 4/8, removing key batters early and leaving the middle order in tatters. Sri Lanka’s tendency to play risky strokes rather than rebuild partnerships proved costly, and India cruised to victory with more than six overs to spare.

4) 87 all out vs Australia, Bridgetown – May 9, 2010

At the 2010 T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka managed just 87 runs in 16.2 overs against Australia in Bridgetown. The pace duo of Dirk Nannes and Mitchell Johnson ran through the lineup, with Johnson finishing with three wickets. Struggling to cope with the extra pace and bounce, the batters fell cheaply. In reply, Cameron White’s blazing 85 off 49 balls powered Australia to an emphatic win, making it one of Sri Lanka’s most one-sided defeats on the world stage.

5) 87 all out vs India, Cuttack – December 20, 2017

Sri Lanka’s joint-fourth lowest score came in Cuttack, where they were dismissed for 87 runs while chasing a target of 181. India’s spinners dominated the evening, with Yuzvendra Chahal claiming 4/23 and Kuldeep Yadav adding 2/18. The pressure mounted after India’s explosive finish with the bat, scoring 61 in the last four overs. Hardik Pandya’s three wickets sealed Sri Lanka’s 93-run defeat, completing another heavy loss against India in the shortest format.
