The Asia Cup 2025 witnessed a spirited moment during the Group B clash between Bangladesh and Hong Kong at Lahore on Thursday. Hong Kong pacer Ayush Shukla produced a breakthrough when he dismissed Bangladesh opener Parvez Hossain Emon, and what followed was a charged-up celebration that grabbed everyone’s attention. Although Bangladesh eventually cruised to a comfortable win, Shukla’s energy reflected the fighting spirit of the associate nation.

The incident took place on the final ball of the third over of Bangladesh’s chase of 144. Shukla, known for his variations, delivered a slower full ball outside off. Emon attempted to loft the ball over the infield but mistimed it completely. Losing control of his bottom hand, the batter could only manage to sky the ball towards deep mid-wicket. Babar Hayat judged it perfectly and completed a safe catch.

As soon as the catch was taken, Shukla erupted in a pumped-up celebration. He roared, pumped his fists, and let out his emotions as his teammates surrounded him. The wicket gave Hong Kong a glimmer of hope early in the chase, showing how much the contest meant to them despite being the underdogs against a strong Bangladesh unit.

Bangladesh dominate despite early hiccup

Batting first, Hong Kong managed to post a fighting total of 143/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Nizakat Khan anchored the innings with a valuable 42, while contributions from the middle order ensured the side reached a competitive score. For Bangladesh, left-arm pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib bowled impressively, picking up two wickets for just 21 runs in his four overs, including a maiden.

In response, Bangladesh chased down the target with ease, finishing at 144/3 in 17.4 overs. Opener Litton Das stole the show with a commanding 59 off 39 balls, setting the tone for the chase. Despite Shukla’s early strike and Ateeq Iqbal’s impressive spell of 2/14, the Hong Kong bowlers struggled to contain the Bangladeshi batters. Partnerships in the middle overs ensured there were no major hiccups, and the Tigers sealed a convincing seven-wicket win to strengthen their position in the group.
