Hridoy, despite a desperate full-length dive, was caught short by several yards. The direct hit stunned the Bangladesh camp, as few expected such precision from such a long distance. Mishara, more known for his batting exploits, showcased why he is fast becoming one of Sri Lanka’s most complete cricketers.

Early collapse for Bangladesh
Bangladesh’s innings was anything but smooth. Asked to bat first on a seam-friendly surface, they struggled right from the outset. Remarkably, it took them 14 deliveries to score their first run. The Sri Lankan new-ball pair of Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera bowled two consecutive wicket-maidens, putting the batters under immense pressure.
Wanindu Hasaranga then joined the act, striking twice in quick succession to leave Bangladesh wobbling at 53/5. At that stage, a collapse under 100 looked imminent. However, the lower middle order had other plans.
Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain script a fightback
Shamim Hossain and Jaker Ali combined forces to stage a remarkable recovery. Showing maturity beyond their years, the duo added 86 runs for the sixth wicket. They rotated strike cleverly, punished loose deliveries, and ensured Bangladesh batted through their full quota of overs.
The unbeaten partnership not only revived the innings but also created history. Their 86-run stand is now the highest sixth-wicket-or-lower partnership for Bangladesh in T20 internationals, surpassing the 82-run seventh-wicket effort between Afif Hossain and Mosaddek Hossain against Zimbabwe in Mirpur back in 2019. Thanks to their resilience, Bangladesh managed to post a competitive 139/5, a total that seemed highly unlikely after their disastrous start.
