Pakistan endured a mixed outing with the bat during their Asia Cup 2025 Super Four encounter against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. While Sahibzada Farhan’s half-century provided solidity, Mohammad Nawaz’s casual approach led to an avoidable run-out that became a turning point in the innings. The incident occurred in the 19th over and highlighted the importance of awareness in high-pressure matches.
Mohammad Nawaz’s costly dismissal
On the third ball of the 19th over, Jasprit Bumrah bowled to Salman Ali Agha, who attempted to step across the stumps and swipe across the line. He managed only a mistimed shot to the square leg fielder stationed inside the circle. While Salman was alert enough to push for a single, Nawaz appeared distracted.
As the fielder, Suryakumar Yadav, collected and released the ball swiftly, Nawaz showed no urgency to ground his bat. Replays confirmed that he was not even looking towards the fielder and failed to slide his bat inside the crease. The throw from Suryakumar hit the stumps directly, leaving Nawaz short of his ground.
The batter walked back visibly frustrated after scoring 21 runs off 19 balls, which included one four and one six. His dismissal drew criticism from fans and experts alike for its sheer lack of awareness, especially at a crucial stage when Pakistan were looking to accelerate.

Sahibzada Farhan leads Pakistan’s charge
Earlier in the innings, Sahibzada was the backbone of Pakistan’s batting effort. Walking in early, the right-hander displayed composure against India’s pace attack and built a crucial second-wicket stand with Saim Ayub.
The duo added 72 runs, keeping Pakistan in a strong position after losing an early wicket. Farhan reached a well-constructed half-century, scoring 58 runs off 45 balls with timely boundaries that frustrated the Indian bowlers. His confidence at the crease lifted Pakistan to 91/1 at the halfway stage of the innings, setting the foundation for a competitive total.

Shivam Dube delivers with the ball
India’s all-rounder Shivam Dube turned the tide with his impactful bowling performance. Introduced in the middle overs, Dube first broke the threatening partnership by dismissing Ayub for 21 in the 11th over. Ayub’s attempt to up the scoring rate resulted in a mistimed shot, giving India a much-needed breakthrough.
Dube struck again in the 15th over, removing the well-set Farhan for 58. His second wicket pegged Pakistan back from a strong position of 115/3, curtailing their momentum in the latter half of the innings. The double strike from Dube played a key role in restricting Pakistan’s scoring opportunities.
