In the opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

England Innings: 282-9 (50 Overs)

In the batting department, Joe Root was the standout performer for England, scoring 77 runs off 86 deliveries, including 4 fours and 1 six. Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler also made valuable contributions with scores of 33 and 43, respectively.

England were reduced to 252-9 in 45.4 overs but a 40-run stand between Adil Rashid (15 not out) and Mark Wood (13 not out) took their team total to 282-9 in the allotted 50 overs.

Among the New Zealand bowlers, Matt Henry was the most successful, picking up three wickets for 48 runs. Glenn Phillips also chipped in with important wickets of Moeen Ali and Joe Root.

A unique record for England in ODIs

During the England innings, all 11 players scored runs in double-digits. This happened for the first time in the history of ODI cricket.
