Pakistan’s historic run-chase
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Sri Lanka, led by Kusal Mendis‘ brilliant 122 and anchored by Sadeera Samarawickrama‘s century, posted a formidable total of 344/9.
Pakistan’s chase had a somewhat discouraging beginning, with Imam-ul-Haq (1) and Babar (10) falling during a slow start in the starting phase, with Dilshan Madushanka dismissing both the star batters.
However, Abdullah Shafique (113) and Rizwan (131 not out) established a solid foundation with a remarkable 176-run partnership for the third wicket. Nonetheless, they executed a spectacular six-wicket victory, completing the highest-ever chase in the tournament’s history.
