Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir, currently entertaining fans with his commentary stint in the ongoing ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, has weighed in on the most lethal bowler in the world of cricket.
As the highly-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan approaches, Gambhir bestowed the title of the most lethal fast bowler in world cricket upon India’s star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah’s performance in the World Cup has been nothing short of remarkable. He has already claimed six wickets from the 20 overs he has bowled across two games. His standout moment came during the match against Afghanistan when he took 4 wickets for just 39 runs.
“We compared Jasprit Bumrah and Shaheen Shah Afridi earlier; there is a huge difference”: Gambhir
Gambhir, known for his forthright views, underscored Bumrah’s exceptional ability to succeed in diverse conditions and against different types of batters. He also compared Bumrah to Shaheen Shah Afridi and emphasized the considerable gap in their effectiveness, thereby making a case for Bumrah’s status as the top bowler.

“The way he dismissed Mitchell Marsh on that wicket (in the first game against Australia) and the way he dismissed Ibrahim Zadran, if there is a complete and most lethal bowler in world cricket, it is Bumrah. We compared Jasprit Bumrah and Shaheen Shah Afridi earlier; there is a huge difference,” said Bumrah on Star Sports.
Gambhir highlighted that Bumrah stands out from the rest because he maintains his effectiveness throughout the game. He reckoned Bumrah’s versatility and consistent impact across all phases of the game make him an extraordinary talent.
“Tell me one fast bowler who can make such an impact in every phase. Bowlers bowl well either with the new ball or at the death, but Bumrah has the same impact in the middle overs as he has with the new ball or the old ball,” added Gambhir.
