The Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023 witnessed an exciting clash as the Hobart Hurricanes Women took on the Perth Scorchers Women at Aurora Stadium in Launceston on Friday. The encounter was nothing short of spectacular, featuring an exceptional display of cricket from the Scorchers, who managed to secure an impressive victory by a massive 98-run margin.

Sophie Devine takes Perth Scorchers to a commanding total

After being asked to bat, Perth Scorchers Women, despite some early setbacks, they managed to put together a formidable total of 186/4 in their allotted 20 overs. The star of their innings was Sophie Devine, who played an explosive unbeaten knock, scoring 87 runs off just 44 balls, including 11 fours and 2 sixes.

Other notable contributions came from Lauren Winfield-Hill, who scored 27 runs, and Amy Edgar, who added 21 runs to the tally. The Scorchers’ strong batting performance put them in a commanding position.

In the bowling department for the Hobart Hurricanes Women, Molly Strano and Maisy Gibson managed to pick up crucial wickets, with Strano taking 1 wicket for 24 runs, and Gibson grabbing 1 wicket for 29 runs.

A tough chase and disappointing finish for Hobart Hurricanes

In response to Perth Scorchers Women’s challenging total, the Hobart Hurricanes Women faced an uphill battle. They struggled to build partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals. Strano provided some resistance with a valiant 37 runs off 30 balls, but it wasn’t enough to change the course of the match.

Alana King was the standout bowler for Perth Scorchers Women, picking up an impressive 3 wickets for just 19 runs. She was well-supported by Chloe Ainsworth and Stella Campbell, who both managed to claim 2 wickets each. The Hobart Hurricanes Women were bowled out for just 88 runs in 15.5 overs, falling short by a significant margin.
