KL Rahul, Team India’s wicketkeeper-batter, received the “Best Fielder” award in a distinctive and memorable manner. This recognition was a result of his exceptional glovework during India‘s commanding 100-run victory over England at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday (October 29). Remarkably, this marked the second time in the ODI World Cup 2023 that Rahul earned this prestigious accolade, making him the first player to achieve such a feat.

A unique award presentation: KL Rahul’s shining moment

The award presentation for Rahul’s remarkable fielding skills was far from ordinary. While evaluating India’s fielding performance in the match against England, Team India’s fielding coach, T. Dilip, commended Rahul, along with substitute fielder Ishan Kishan and pacer Mohammed Siraj.

“This medal is merely not about statistics. It’s not about just one good catch or saving some runs. It’s who bring on the spirit on the field. And what that one act you make how much the impact is making on the match. All that is counted and those are the winners,” Dilip said while addressing the players in the dressing room.

To make this recognition even more extraordinary, Dilip orchestrated a surprise for the entire Indian team. He led the players out of the dressing room, and as they gathered outside, the Ekana Stadium plunged into darkness. In a visually stunning moment, the stadium illuminated with Rahul’s name and jersey number, delivering this exceptional award announcement in a one-of-a-kind fashion.
