Team India’s remarkable journey in the ODI World Cup 2023 continues as they secured their sixth consecutive victory in the tournament. Their latest triumph came against England on Sunday, where they managed to defend a relatively low score of 229/9 by dismantling the English batting lineup, restricting them to just 129 runs. The experienced pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami played a pivotal role in India’s win.
India’s bowlers shine as England stumbles
England’s opening pair of Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan got off to a promising start, putting on 30 runs without losing a wicket. However, Bumrah initiated a swift turnaround by claiming two quick wickets. His consecutive dismissals of Malan and Joe Root set the tone for India’s dominant performance.
Bumrah’s outstanding performance
Bumrah’s exceptional bowling performance left fans and experts in awe. He finished the game with three wickets for just 32 runs in 6.5 overs, including a maiden. His pinpoint accuracy, controlled swing, and ability to deliver yorkers at will earned him widespread praise. Notably, Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram hailed Bumrah as the best bowler in the world at the moment.

Wasim Akram’s praise and humorous take on Bumrah
Akram, known for his insightful cricket analysis, expressed his admiration for Bumrah’s skills. He commended the Indian pacer’s ability to swing the ball, his impeccable length, and seam positioning.
“He is the best in the world right now. Top of the ladder, the way he is performing, the control, pace, the variations, he is just a complete bowler. A treat to watch,” said Akram on A Sports.
In a humorous moment, Akram jokingly suggested a unique way to stop Bumrah from taking wickets. He remarked, “The kind of length he bowls with the new ball, it creates uncertainty for the batters. Only remedy for Bumrah is to put pressure on him. Uski boot chori kar lo, bowling na kar paye” (Steal his shoes, and he won’t be able to bowl).
