Indian star Shubman Gill showcased his cricketing prowess in the high-stakes ODI World Cup 2023 clash against Sri Lanka at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Team India have been in a remarkable form throughout the tournament, remaining unbeaten with six consecutive victories.

Sri Lanka’s toss decision pays off

In the backdrop of a dream run by Team India, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision proved fruitful for the Islanders as Dilshan Madushanka made an early breakthrough by dismissing Indian skipper Rohit Sharma on just the second ball of the innings.

Despite the early setback, the Lankan bowlers created additional opportunities, albeit missed chances. Gill, in partnership with Virat Kohli, capitalized on these moments to establish a stunning partnership. The duo combined forces to add an impressive 189 runs for the second wicket.

Gill’s batting brilliance was evident as he entered the 90s in the 30th over bowled by Madushanka. He appeared poised to achieve his maiden World Cup century.

Gill’s dismissal and viral reactions

However, in an attempt to guide a slower short ball past the keeper, Gill ended up giving a straightforward catch to Kusal Mendis. The dramatic turn of events left fans in awe, with particular attention on the reaction of Sara Tendulkar, daughter of the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who was present at the stadium.

Sara’s reaction quickly went viral on the internet, reflecting the roller-coaster emotions of the match. After Gill’s dismissal, Sara initially appeared sad but later stood up to applaud the star Indian opener for his sensational performance. Meanwhile, India managed to post a massive total of 357/8 in their allotted 50 overs.

It’s worth noting that Gill and Sara had been spotted together in Mumbai recently. However, despite their apparent closeness, they discreetly avoided being photographed together by the paparazzi while leaving a party.
