Cricket Australia (CA), on Tuesday, announced their revised squad for the upcoming T20I series against India, starting Thursday, November 23 in Visakhapatnam. This battle will be the first bilateral assignment for both sides after the recently-concluded ODI World Cup 2023 where Australia defeated India in the summit clash to bag the coveted trophy.

The series against India also serves as a crucial part of the teams’ preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA.

Notable absences

Several prominent names, including David Warner, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Cameron Green, and Mitchell Marsh, will be unavailable for the T20Is. This strategic decision allows them to focus on preparations for the upcoming home Test series against Pakistan, commencing on December 14.

New inclusions

In light of the absentees, Cricket Australia has called up Western Australia allrounder Aaron Hardie, who made his debut earlier this year in South Africa. Additionally, Kane Richardson has been brought in as a replacement for Spencer Johnson, who is nursing a hamstring injury.

Squad composition

The revamped T20I squad features seven players who played crucial roles in Australia’s ODI World Cup triumph. Tanveer Sangha, who served as a travelling reserve during the World Cup, is also part of the squad.

Future engagements

Notably, Australia are set to play six more T20Is before the T20 World Cup, with series against West Indies and New Zealand scheduled for February. These matches will provide further opportunities for the squad to refine their game plan and assess their strengths ahead of the global competition.
