The ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024 saw yet another pulsating double-header on January 22. In Group C, Australia took on Namibia at Diamond Oval, while Bangladesh faced off against Ireland at Mangaung Oval in Group A. The day showcased brilliant performances, with Australia and Bangladesh clinching victories in their respective encounters.

Australia’s easy win over Namibia

Choosing to bowl after winning the toss in the 9th match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024 Group C, Australia’s decision paid off as their bowlers dominated Namibia’s batting lineup.

Namibia Under-19s struggled to establish a substantial innings, managing only 91 runs in 33.1 overs. Zacheo van Vuuren was the top scorer for Namibia, with 29 runs off 47 balls. However, the Australian bowlers, led by Callum Vidler‘s impressive spell of 4 wickets for 17 runs in 8.1 overs, kept the pressure on throughout the innings.

In response, Australia Under-19s faced some early challenges in their chase of 92 runs. Hugh Weibgen‘s crucial innings of 39 runs off 43 balls provided stability to the Australian innings. Namibian bowler Jack Brassell tried to make a contest of it with a three-wicket haul, but Australia managed to reach the target with four wickets in hand. Raf MacMilllan contributed with 16 runs off 26 balls, guiding Australia to a victory in 19.5 overs.

In the end, Australia Under-19s secured a four-wicket win against Namibia Under-19s in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024 Group C encounter. Vidler’s impactful bowling and Weibgen’s crucial innings were instrumental in Australia’s victory, overcoming a spirited effort from Namibia in the thrilling contest at Diamond Oval.

Bangladesh’s victory over Ireland

The 8th Match of Group A in the ICC Under 19 World Cup 2024 saw Bangladesh opting to bowl after winning the toss against Ireland, a decision that set the tone for a gripping contest.

Ireland posted a competitive total of 235/8 in their allotted 50 overs, with standout performances from Kian Hilton, who notched an impressive 90 runs. However, the Bangladesh bowlers, led by Maruf Mridha and Sheikh Paevez Jibon, showcased discipline and skill to limit Ireland’s innings.

Moving on to Bangladesh’s innings, the team displayed a balanced and composed approach in their pursuit of 236. Ashiqur Rahman Shibli, Adil Bin Siddik, and Shihab James contributed with crucial runs, setting the stage for a successful chase. Ahrar Amin‘s all-around brilliance, adding 45 runs with the bat and scalping two wickets with the ball, played a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s victory. The team reached the target with six wickets in hand, underlining their batting depth and determination in the ICC Under 19 World Cup.

In conclusion, Bangladesh Under-19s showcased their prowess in both batting and bowling to secure a well-deserved win against Ireland Under-19s.
