Root has outpaced the renowned Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar to become the leading run-scorer in Test matches between India and England. Notably, the former England captain required a mere 10 runs to surpass Tendulkar’s record before stepping onto the field in Hyderabad. He accomplished this feat in style by smashing a boundary off Axar Patel in the 21st over of England’s first innings.
Leading up to this series, Root had amassed 2,526 runs in 25 matches against India, showcasing an impressive average of 63.15. This notable performance included nine centuries and 10 half-centuries. His proficiency in Indian conditions was evident from his previous tours, characterized by substantial scores, such as his memorable 218 in Chennai during the 2021 tour.
