In a thrilling finale of the inaugural Indian Veterans Premier League (IVPL), Suresh Raina‘s VVIP Uttar Pradesh emerged victorious, clinching the title by defeating Mumbai Champions. The final match witnessed an intense battle as VVIP UP successfully chased down a formidable target of 215 runs, showcasing remarkable batting prowess.
The hero of the summit clash was Pawan Negi, whose scintillating knock of 105 runs off just 55 deliveries played a pivotal role in VVIP UP’s triumph.
Mumbai Champions Innings
After opting to bat first, Mumbai Champions posted a commanding total of 214/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Phil Mustard and Peter Trego led the charge for Mumbai, crafting impressive half-centuries with scores of 76 and an unbeaten 57 respectively. Abhishek Jhunjhunwala also made a significant contribution with 36 runs to bolster Mumbai’s innings.
VVIP Uttar Pradesh Innings
Facing a daunting chase, VVIP UP encountered early setbacks, losing three wickets for just 45 runs, including the dismissal of their skipper Suresh Raina, who managed to score only nine runs. However, Pawan Negi showcased exceptional resilience and skill, forming a crucial partnership of 113 runs with Parvinder Singh. Singh contributed 51 runs before departing, but Negi continued to dominate the proceedings, unleashing a barrage of boundaries.

Supported by Puneet Bisht in the middle, Negi guided VVIP UP to victory as they crossed the finish line in the final over with 6 wickets in hand. For his exceptional batting performance, Negi was adjudged the Player of the Match. Not only this, he was also awarded the Orange Cap for scoring most runs in the tournament.
