Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered a convincing 23-run victory over UP Warriorz (UPW) in the final match of the Bengaluru leg of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. This win comes after two consecutive defeats, marking a strong comeback for the team.
Strong batting performance by RCB
RCB set the tone with a solid batting performance, posting a challenging total of 198/3. Smriti Mandhana led the charge with a well-paced 80 off 50 balls, featuring 10 fours and 3 sixes. Ellyse Perry provided crucial support with a knock of 58 off 37 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes. Richa Ghosh finished the innings with an unbeaten 21 off 10 balls, adding valuable late-order impetus.
UPW chase starts well, falters later
UPW began their chase on a positive note with Alyssa Healy scoring a quick-fire 55 off 38 balls. However, they were unable to sustain the momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. This prevented them from building partnerships and ultimately led to their downfall.
A controversial LBW decision against Chamari Athapaththu added to UPW’s struggles. Replays showed the ball pitching outside leg stump, leaving the UPW camp in disbelief.
RCB bowling steadies the ship
Despite conceding runs upfront, the RCB bowlers tightened their lines later in the innings. Sophie Devine and Sophie Molineux picked up two wickets each, while Renuka Singh and Asha Sobhana chipped in with one wicket apiece. RCB were able to defend their total successfully, securing their second win against UPW in the tournament.
