After almost two months of riveting Test cricket across the country, Rohit Sharma‘s Indian team sealed a resounding victory over England on Day 3 of the Dharamsala Test, claiming the match by an innings and 64 runs. In his 100th Test, Ravichandran Ashwin showcased his bowling mastery once again, securing a fifer and concluding with a remarkable figure of 5/77 in England’s second innings. While Kuldeep Yadav was named Player of the Match for his exceptional bowling performance overall.
James Anderson’s milestone moment
During the morning session on third day, England’s off-spinner Shoaib Bashir delivered his second five-wicket haul in Tests, while the seasoned pacer James Anderson etched his name in history by becoming the first fast bowler to reach 700 wickets in the format.
India commenced the last day on the overnight score of 473/8, with Kuldeep on 27 and Jasprit Bumrah on 19. The duo added four more runs before Anderson reached a significant milestone, claiming his 700th Test wicket by enticing Kuldeep into a poke outside the off-stump. Anderson, now the third bowler with 700 or more Test wickets, joined the elite ranks of Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne. Bashir completed his five-wicket haul by coaxing Bumrah forward, resulting in a stumping to conclude India’s innings at 477, with a handy lead of 259.
England falters in second innings against Ravichandran Ashwin
The pressure materialized when opener Ben Duckett attempted an attacking route against Ashwin, only to play down the wrong line, losing his off-stump. Zak Crawley followed suit, departing for a 16-ball duck with a short leg catching his flick off Ashwin, reducing England to 21/2 within the first six overs.
An unsettled Ollie Pope top-edged to running square leg, granting Ashwin his third wicket of the innings. Despite Jonny Bairstow‘s aggressive strokeplay, making 39 off 31 balls, he succumbed to Kuldeep’s sharp turn, trapped lbw with the ball clipping the top of the leg-stump. Ashwin returned for another over, securing his fifer by castling Ben Stokes through the gate at the stroke of lunch.

Joe Root’s resistance ends by Kuldeep Yadav
Joe Root valiantly held up England to reach tea without further damage, but Ashwin returned to claim his sixth victim in the form of Ben Stokes, leaving England at 113/6. Bumrah then seized two wickets, bringing India closer to victory. Despite a valiant effort from Root and Bashir, Ravindra Jadeja ended their 47-run partnership. In an attempt to accelerate, Root eventually fell victim to Kuldeep’s bowling, caught out at the hand of Bumrah.
Historical victory by Team India
This historic victory marked the first time in 112 years that a team won a five-match Test series by a 4-1 margin after being 1-0 down. The last team to achieve such a feat was England, recovering from 1-0 against Australia in the Ashes of 1911/12 to win by 4-1. The series showcased India’s resilience, skill, and strategic brilliance, leaving an indelible mark in the annals of cricketing history

Bazball , Batti Gull.
There needs to be a method to madness. England simply didn’t have the game to match and looked clueless particularly after the second test match .
The captain failing miserably only added to their woes and they simply looked like living in an illusion . For… pic.twitter.com/wVtNN1nV8X— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) March 9, 2024
India are so strong at home .. With so many players missing they have showcased the strength they have .. England haven’t been able to get the tempo right with the Bat in hand .. Beaten convincingly by a better team .. #INDvENG

When we were doing game plans for #INDvENG series in south Africa @StarSportsIndia My prediction was 4-1 India. Well done team India. They were many hurdles but winning against Bazball has been satisfying.

Yet another home series win and it won't get even half the hype, but what makes this even more stellar is that India play in so many vast conditions. Ashwin spoke about how he changed his action a few times this series as every venue is different.
Makes it even more phenomenal

So many moments and takeaways from this series but the best one for me was the opportunities provided to the youngsters in this series. It was great to see them playing and showing their might in the same way #TeamIndia is known for.
