In a much-awaited contest at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Bangladesh secured a nail-biting victory over Sri Lanka in the deciding third and final One Day International (ODI) of the 3-match series. With the win, the hosts successfully captured the series 2-1.
Janith Liyanage shines with magnificent ton
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka set a target of 236 runs for Bangladesh to chase. Sri Lanka’s innings was anchored by a superb century from Janith Liyanage, who scored 101 runs off 102 balls.
However, apart from Liyanage, the Sri Lankan batting lineup struggled to build significant partnerships. Charith Asalanka‘s contribution of 37 runs and Kusal Mendis‘s 29 runs were noteworthy, but they couldn’t capitalize on their starts. Sri Lanka was eventually could only manage to reach 235 runs in 50 overs.

Chasing a target of 236 runs, Bangladesh got off to a shaky start, losing early wickets. However, Tanzid Hasan played a brilliant innings, smashing 84 runs off 81 balls and anchoring the chase. He smashed 9 fours and 4 sixes during his excellent knock.
Apart from Tanzid, Rishad Hossain provided the late fireworks, scoring a quickfire 48 runs off just 18 balls, which proved crucial in Bangladesh’s chase. Despite losing six wickets, Bangladesh successfully chased down the target in 40.2 overs, securing a thrilling victory.
Key performances
For Sri Lanka, Liyanage’s century was the standout performance, providing stability to the innings. Lahiru Kumara was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka, claiming four wickets for 48 runs in his eight overs. In Bangladesh’s innings, Tanzid’s aggressive knock and Rishad’s explosive batting turned the game in their favor.
