Riyan Parag played a sensational knock to single-handedly revive Rajasthan Royals (RR) innings against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ninth match of the IPL 2024 season on Thursday. Parag’s unbeaten 84-run masterpiece in Jaipur steered RR from a precarious 58/3 to a competitive total of 185/5.
The young India batter walked out to the crease with RR in a spot of bother, having already lost two wickets with just 30 runs on the board. The dismissal of Jos Buttler (36) soon after further dented their hopes. However, Parag, along with Ravichandran Ashwin, stitched together a crucial 54-run partnership that laid the foundation for the recovery.
Riyan Parag unleashes late power surge
While Ashwin played the aggressor initially, Parag took centre stage after reaching 26 off 26 balls. The 15th over saw him launch a brutal assault on Khaleel Ahmed, and he continued the carnage against Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav.
The dominating final over
The final over, bowled by the fiery Anrich Nortje, became a showcase of Parag’s fearlessness. He started with two fours before launching Nortje for a towering six over wide long-off. Another four followed before a short ball was dispatched for another maximum over the ropes. Parag ended the over with a single, finishing with an unbeaten 84, his highest score in the IPL.
Parag’s knock was laced with seven fours and six sixes, coming at a blistering strike rate of 186.87.
