A late change saw English fast bowler Richard Gleeson join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as a replacement for their opening batter, Devon Conway. The 36-year-old Gleeson brings a wealth of experience to the squad, having already represented England in 6 T20Is.
Unfortunately, Conway has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season due to injury. Notably, Conway hadn’t featured in any matches this season.

Gleeson’s international cricket has been confined to the Twenty20 format for England. Across just six matches, he has captured nine wickets. His most recent international outing came against Pakistan in September 2022, and he will undoubtedly be aiming for a return to the national team again.
Prior to his international breakthrough, Gleeson carved out a successful domestic career. He made his first-class debut for Northamptonshire in 2015, facing off against Australia. In just 34 matches, he grabbed a 143 wickets. Gleeson also enjoyed success in List A cricket, debuting against Lancashire in the Royal London One-Day Cup in 2016. He has taken 28 wickets in his 21 List A matches.

CSK snags Gleeson as a replacement player for INR 50 lakhs
The CSK secured the services of seamer Gleeson from England for his base price of INR 50 lakhs. This marks Gleeson’s maiden IPL contract, presenting him with an exciting opportunity to showcase his skills on the biggest stage in franchise cricket.
Meanwhile, CSK have emerged as a force to be reckoned with in IPL 2024. They currently occupy the number three spot in the points table, having secured four wins in their first six matches. While Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) sits just ahead in second place, a narrow run rate separates the two teams. Rajasthan Royals (RR) currently leads the pack, highlighting the tight competition at the top of the table.
