The Indian Premier League 2024 likely marks MS Dhoni’s final year in the cash-rich league, with many fans and experts anticipating the retirement of the Indian legend after this season concludes. Ahead of IPL 2024, the wicketkeeper-batter gave away the captaincy duties to opener Ruturaj Gaikwad but continues to play a pivotal role in his team’s lineup.

In his last five innings, Dhoni has amassed 87 runs at an extraordinary strike rate of 255.88 and remarkably, he is yet to be dismissed this season. His most recent impactful innings occurred in the 34th match of the IPL, where he played a crucial knock of 28 runs off just 9 balls against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Dhoni’s ability to deliver powerful hits keeps fans glued to their screens worldwide, with even the former South African bowling ace admitting to being stuck to the TV whenever Dhoni steps up to bat.

Dale Steyn, renowned as one of the fastest pacers in cricket history, recently lauded Dhoni’s batting prowess, expressing admiration for the wicketkeeper-batter’s style at the crease. Steyn admitted to being mesmerized by Dhoni’s batting technique. Steyn confessed that he finds himself captivated by Dhoni’s batting displays, often remaining seated and engrossed in watching Dhoni bat on TV during IPL matches. In a light-hearted remark, Steyn shared that his girlfriend has jokingly complained about the TV being constantly tuned to IPL, highlighting his unwavering admiration for Dhoni’s batting.

“Not only has it engulfed the IPL. That’s engulfed many South Africa and myself, to be honest with you, I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I seem to be glued to the seat when the IPL is on my girlfriend says that my TV is broken, it’s stuck on cricket right now IPL and watching MS the other night. That’s exactly what we want to do,” said Steyn, as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

“You know, I’ve been on the receiving end of it before. I’ve watched it from a fan’s point of view, I loved it. I mean, I am a much better mood because of what I’ve just seen. So can we get more of MS Dhoni out in the middle? That would be great,” the 40-year-old added.

Steyn stats in IPL

During his IPL career, which lasted from 2008 to 2020, the Proteas pacer featured in 95 matches. In these matches, Steyn delivered 362 overs, claimed 97 wickets, and conceded 2508 runs, maintaining an average of 25.85 and an economy rate of 6.91. It’s worth mentioning that Steyn represented various teams, including Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Deccan Chargers (now defunct), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Gujarat Lions (GL).
