Oppo Replaces Star As New Sponsor Of Indian Cricket Team

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named OPPO Mobiles India Private Limited as Team India’s new sponsor for five years starting April 2017.

“The mobile manufacturing giant OPPO’s association with BCCI will start from April 2017 for a period of five years,” a BCCI release said.

OPPO claimed the bid of being the new sponsor by outbidding Vivo, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer.

Vivo offered $115 million for the five-year period whereas OPPO bid $162 million for a five-year period starting in April and claimed the rights.

As per the reports in sportskeeda, CEO of BCCI, Rahul Johri was quoted saying, “On behalf of the BCCI, I would like to congratulate OPPO Mobiles India Pvt Ltd., on winning the rights and welcome them to the BCCI family. OPPO today, joins our other prominent sponsors like PayTM, PepsiCo, Hyundai and Janalakshmi Financial Services. OPPO Mobiles and the BCCI share a common vision and I am confident that we will work together to further grow Indian cricket.”

Also, Star India – the current official sponsor of Team India’s jersey – decided not bid for the renewal of the contract citing lack of clarity after the recent turmoil in the Indian cricket board.
