After months of speculation and fan unrest, Rohit Sharma, the former captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), has finally addressed the leadership change that saw him hand over the reins to Hardik Pandya for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Rohit Sharma shares his take on losing Mumbai Indians captaincy

Notably, the decision to remove Rohit as captain of the Mumbai stirred a buzz on social media and caught many in the cricketing world by surprise. This move proved unpopular with MI’s dedicated fanbase, with some fans even resorting to booing Hardik during his initial outings as the new leader.

In a recent press conference alongside chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Rohit addressed questions about his experience playing under Hardik in the IPL. Rohit took a philosophical approach, describing it as ‘part of life’ and acknowledging that things don’t always go according to plan.

“See, it is part of life. Not everything will go your way. It has been a great experience,” said Rohit.

Rohit also downplayed the significance of the captaincy change, stating that his experience playing under various captains throughout his illustrious career has prepared him to adapt to any leadership style.

“Before (also), I have not been captain and I have played under a lot of captains. It is no different or new to me,” added Rohit.

Rohit addresses form issue

Notably, Rohit has been struggling with the bat in the past few seasons of IPL and has been on the receiving end of criticism for not scoring enough runs. However, in IPL 2024, he has given glimpses of his returning form. So far, in 10 matches, the Nagpur-born cricketer has scored 315 runs at a strike rate of 158.29, including a century.

“Whatever is there and you go by it and then try and do what is required from you as a player. I have only tried to do that in the last one month or so,” Rohit added further.
