Mumbai Indians (MI) fast bowler Gerald Coetzee missed the IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday, May 6.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya confirmed at the toss that Anshul Kambhoj would replace Gerald Coetzee in the playing XI at the Wankhede Stadium.
Reason for Gerald Coetzee’s absence
Coetzee, who has played 10 games for MI this season, was benched in the do-or-die clash. MI decided to go with uncapped pacer in place of the South African young sensation.
“We’re going to bowl first. Wicket looks fresh. Might have something with the new ball, want to exploit that. Anshul Kambhoj makes his debut. It’s all about playing for pride, play for the badge. And for fans who have been with us through thick and thin,” said Hardik after winning the toss.
Meanwhile for SRH, Mayank Agarwal has made his return after missing the last six encounters due to injury.
“Got Agarwal coming back to the side, will bat at three. Dew is a factor here, but we have been batting well. Got four games left, will probably need to win two of those. But we’re not thinking that far ahead,” said SRH skipper Pat Cummins.
