Throughout his illustrious career, Lara shattered numerous records, etching his legacy as one of cricket’s true giants. His monumental achievements include the highest individual score in first-class cricket, an astonishing 501 not out, and the highest individual score in Test cricket, an unparalleled 400 runs against England in 2004, a feat that still stands as the pinnacle of batting excellence.
Lara names a youngster that can break his records
Despite the passage of many years, Lara’s records continue to tower, unchallenged by any other batter. However, Lara remains open to the possibility of the younger generation of cricketers achieving the seemingly impossible. Recently, the former West Indies skipper identified a young player whom he believes has the potential to surpass his records in international cricket.
Lara has put forth a significant assertion regarding India’s emerging batting talent, Yashasvi Jaiswal, suggesting that Jaiswal has the potential to surpass all of his records. Notably, the 22-year-old has been making remarkable progress in his career, particularly highlighted by his record-breaking IPL season in 2023. During that season, Jaiswal accumulated 625 runs from 14 innings, boasting an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of 163.61. In the current edition, Jaiswal has scored 320 runs in 11 matches with one century and a fifty.
“If I feel my records are threatened, Jaiswal has got a very good chance to do so. He has got capabilities, couple of double hundreds already. He is that good,” said Lara as quoted by PTI.

Lara suggests a bright future for SRH star
Continuing his remarks, Lara also expressed his appreciation for Abhishek Sharma, a talented young player for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who has been providing dynamic starts for his team in the ongoing IPL 2024. Lara recollected his time as batting coach of SRH and highlighted his positive bond with Abhishek. He praised Abhishek’s humility and eagerness to learn, suggesting a bright future for the talented cricketer.
“Again he is someone who I met while I was batting coach of SRH. I spent two years there. I am allowed to a bit biased when I see a left-hander, I just love a left-hander. Myself and Abhishek have developed a very good relationship, these youngsters are very humble, they want to learn,” he added.
During the current IPL 2024 season, Abhishek has accumulated 401 runs across 12 matches, boasting an average of 36.45 and an impressive strike rate of 205.64. His performance includes two half-centuries. Teaming up with renowned batsman Travis Head, the 23-year-old has established a potent opening partnership, consistently providing electrifying starts for their team.
