The eagerly anticipated T20I series between Ireland and Pakistan kicked off on Friday at the Clontarf Cricket Club Ground in Dublin. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Ireland’s decision paid immediate dividends as they dismissed the seasoned Mohammad Rizwan in just the second over of the match.
Harry Tector’s fielding brilliance gets rid of Mohammad Rizwan
The incident took place on the penultimate delivery of the second over of Pakistan innings bowled by Barry McCarthy. The right-armer aimed for a fullish delivery on off stump, enticing Saim Ayub to drive the ball towards mid-off. As the batters set off for a run, Saim wisely signaled his partner to retreat upon observing the fielder charging towards the ball.
Despite Rizwan’s desperate dive towards the crease, Tector’s precise throw found its mark, leaving the batter well short of his ground. The decision was referred to the third umpire, and the replay confirmed that Rizwan was miles out.

Unfamiliar terrain for both teams
Ireland and Pakistan haven’t played a T20I against each other in a decade and a half, adding to the intrigue of this series. Moreover, neither team is entirely accustomed to the conditions at Clontarf Cricket Club Ground. Ireland, despite being at home, haven’t played at Clontarf for the best part of three years.
Both teams have their sights set further west, with the T20 World Cup looming in about three weeks. They are in the same group and will face each other on June 16 in Lauderhill, Florida. Consequently, adjusting to conditions in Dublin is a crucial preparation for the tournament, even though the climate and pitch in Florida are expected to be vastly different.
