The 60th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata took an unexpected turn when former MI captain Rohit Sharma was spotted in the KKR dressing room during a rain delay. The encounter, shortened to 16 overs per side due to persistent rain, culminated in a thrilling 18-run victory for KKR, securing their spot in the playoffs.
Rain delay brings Rohit Sharma to KKR dressing room
The match, scheduled to commence at 07:30 PM IST, faced a delay of over an hour as inclement weather conditions persisted in Kolkata. During this delay, Rohit, the seasoned cricketer of MI, was seen engrossed in conversation with KKR’s support staff, including assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and bowling coach Bharat Arun. Notably, players such as Manish Pandey was also present during this intriguing interaction.

Social media abuzz with transfer speculations
The unexpected rendezvous between Rohit and KKR personnel sparked a flurry of speculations across social media platforms. Fans and pundits alike began conjecturing whether this could signal a potential move for Rohit to the KKR camp in the upcoming seasons of the IPL.
These speculations gained traction following the deletion of a video by KKR earlier in the week, wherein Rohit was captured making ambiguous remarks about his satisfaction with the proceedings in the MI camp this season. The subsequent appearance of Rohit in the KKR dressing room only added fuel to the fire of transfer rumors.

Rohit Sharma joins Virat Kohli in a unique club
Despite Rohit’s limited contribution with the bat, managing only 19 runs during Mumbai’s chase, he accomplished a notable milestone, placing himself alongside RCB stalwart Virat Kohli in a distinguished list. Dubbed as the ‘Hitman’, Rohit reached the mark of 11,500 runs in men’s T20 cricket upon scoring his 14th run in the match. This achievement made him the second Indian, following Kohli, to surpass the 11,500-run milestone in T20 cricket.
Kohli maintains the top spot in this tally with an impressive total of over 12,628 runs. Notable players such as Chris Gayle (14,562), Shoaib Malik (13,360), Kieron Pollard (12,900), Alex Hales (12,319), and David Warner (12,232) rank ahead of this Indian duo. Earlier in the season, Rohit added yet another accolade to his already illustrious career by becoming the first Indian cricketer to complete 500 T20 sixes.
