The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced their men’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, set to be held in the West Indies and USA. The announcement came on Tuesday, following the conclusion of Bangladesh’s T20I series against Zimbabwe, where the hosts secured a 4-1 victory.
Shakib Al Hasan returns
The squad features the return of experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who rejoined the T20I format after nearly a year. Shakib was included in Bangladesh’s final two T20Is against Zimbabwe, making an immediate impact with a four-wicket haul in the fourth match.
Leadership roles confirmed
Najmul Hossain Shanto, appointed as Bangladesh’s captain across all formats earlier this year, will lead the team in the upcoming multi-team tournament. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has been named as the vice-captain, reflecting his importance to the squad.

Key Selections
There were no major surprises in the squad selection. Young fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib earned a spot after two impressive outings against Zimbabwe. Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam, who was rested for the final two matches against the rainbow nation, is also included in the squad. Afif Hossain Dhrubo and Hasan Mahmud will travel as reserves.
Notably, Bangladesh are placed in Group D alongside South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, and Nepal for the global showpiece event. Their campaign will kick off against Sri Lanka in Dallas on June 7.
