In a thrilling conclusion to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) in their final match of the season. Despite this win, LSG ended the season with 14 points from 14 games and missed out on a spot in the playoffs.
KL Rahul’s humourous take at Rohit Sharma
Following the match, LSG captain KL Rahul shared his disappointment over the team’s overall performance. However, he managed to lighten the atmosphere with a humorous reference to a popular advertisement featuring himself, his father-in-law Suniel Shetty, and Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma. Rahul expressed his support to Team India and Rohit.
“I’m on my father-in-law’s team now. We’ll both be cheering for Sharma ji ka beta in the World Cup,” said Rahul in the post-match presentation.

Season reflections and disappointments
Reflecting on the season, Rahul expressed his disappointment with LSG’s overall performance, noting that despite starting the season with a strong team and comprehensive coverage, injuries and a lack of cohesive play hindered their success. He acknowledged that while their final game showcased the level of performance, they aimed for throughout the season, they were unable to consistently achieve this standard.
“Very disappointing. At the beginning of the season, I really felt we had a strong team and had most bases covered. A couple of injuries – happen to every team. We didn’t play well enough collectively. Today was a really good performance. This is the kind of game we wanted to play more. Unfortunately, we didn’t do that,” explained Rahul.
Highlighting the efforts of LSG’s Indian pacers
Despite the overall disappointment, Rahul praised the hard work and development of LSG’s Indian pacers, commending the franchise’s investment in their training.
“Really happy for them. The franchise has invested a lot of time and energy with them. It’s not just two months in the year. We sent Mayank and Yudhvir to South Africa to train with Morne Morkel. Hard work for them has paid off, but the franchise and the team have worked a lot with them,” Rahul added.
